What a sangeet invitation says
The sangeet has moved from a small evening of songs at home to, in many families, the biggest party before the wedding: a hall, a DJ, a stage and rehearsed dances from both sides. The invite has to do more work than a haldi card.
- The evening's start time, and when the performances begin. "Doors at 7:30, dances from 8:30" stops guests arriving after the family's big number.
- The venue, with a map. Banquet halls and lawns in the same area often have similar names.
- The dress code. Sangeet dress codes are the most specific of the wedding: "Bollywood glam", "Indo-western", "All black with one gold thing".
- A note for performers. Who to send the song to, and by when.
- Whether there's dinner and a bar, so guests know whether to eat first.
- Who's invited. The sangeet is often the one function the friends group is asked to.
The sangeet's place in the wedding
In Kehdoo's North Indian starter set, the sangeet is on the second evening at 7:30 pm, after the haldi and mehendi on the first day and before the wedding on the third. Many families do exactly that; others hold it the night before the wedding, or join it to a cocktail night. Kehdoo has a "Cocktail night" kind as well as "Sangeet", so a combined evening can be named "Sangeet and cocktails" and keep the right emoji.
If the sangeet runs late, put an end time. The invite then shows the start and the end in IST, and the calendar file blocks out the whole evening in each guest's calendar.
The playlist and the performances
Every function has a notes field of up to 300 characters, shown on the sangeet's page under its time and venue. It's the right place for the line every sangeet invite needs and nobody remembers to send:
- "Performing? Send your song and the names in your group to Kabir by 1 December."
- "Rehearsals at Nani's house on Sunday at 6. The choreographer comes at 7."
- "Song requests for the DJ: message Priya. No more than two each."
Change the note whenever the plan changes. Everyone who opens the link sees the new words straight away, and the link itself never changes, so nobody has to forward a new message.
What to wear to a sangeet
Sangeet clothes are about dancing: lehengas and sharara sets, kurta sets with a jacket, Indo-western gowns, sequins, comfortable shoes. Many families give the night a colour or a theme. Whatever yours is, type it in the dress code field, up to 80 characters. It shows on the sangeet's card and again under its time and venue, so guests find it without asking the family group.
Sangeet invitation wording in English and Hindi
Lines to send with the sangeet's link. The time, venue, map and dress code are on the page the link opens.
On kehdoo.in the WhatsApp words Kehdoo writes for invites and reminders come in English and Hindi, and in your second script if your invite has one. You can edit them before each send.
How to make a sangeet invitation, step by step
- Start the inviteAt /e/new, type both names and the date of the first function. The North Indian set already has the sangeet on the second evening. On another set, add it as a function.
- Set the eveningThe date, the start time, and under "More for the Sangeet" an end time, the hall's address and a Google Maps link.
- Write the dress code and the performers' note"Bollywood glam" in the dress code; who to send songs to, and by when, in the notes.
- Keep RSVP onThe sangeet is usually the function the caterer needs the firmest number for. Later, on your hosts' page, set a reply-by date and a limit on how many people one reply can bring.
- Share the sangeet's linkOn your hosts' page, the Share tab gives the sangeet its own link, preview and WhatsApp button. Send it to the friends group and the whole invite to the family.
RSVPs for each function, and a number for the caterer
Guests reply to each function on its own: coming or not, and how many people. Your hosts' page shows the sangeet's total next to the others: people coming, replies, how many can't make it, and the split between the bride's side and the groom's side. A family added as "Mehta family (6)" replies once for up to six.
Who gets asked about the sangeet depends on the link. A guest on your list is asked only about the functions you ticked for them, so a college friend asked only to the sangeet answers only for the sangeet. On the open link, the reply form asks about every function that takes replies. If the friends group should only see the sangeet, add them to the list and send personal links.
Then use "Remind next" on the people who haven't replied to the sangeet. WhatsApp opens with the reminder written in, you press send, come back and tap Sent, and Kehdoo moves on to the next person. The guest list holds 25 names; more are kept and wait for a bigger list, which is coming soon.
On the night
Put the invite's wish wall on the screen at the hall between performances: guests scan a QR, write a line for the couple and add a photo, and the wishes show one at a time. Read how it works on the digital guestbook page. The days before, the haldi and the mehendi each have their own link on the same invite. For the whole wedding, see wedding invitations.
