About Teddy Day
Teddy Day is the fourth day of Valentine's Week in India, and in 2027 it falls on Wednesday, 10 February 2027. Couples, school and college friends and families mark it by giving a teddy bear or soft toy, or by sending a card with a teddy on it. It is a modern custom, not a religious one.
Where Teddy Day comes from
Nobody founded Teddy Day, and no one can point to the first year it was kept. It belongs to the Valentine's Week calendar, which grew in India from roughly the late 1990s and 2000s. Valentine's Day caught on after the economy opened up in the early 1990s, when a new middle class got foreign TV channels and card shops. Gift shops, FM radio, TV and later social media then gave each of the seven days before 14 February a theme. News explainers repeat the date every year but name no founder or start year, because there isn't one on record. It is a young, commercial custom with no religious meaning and no legend behind it.
The toy does have a documented story. In November 1902, the American president Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt was on a bear hunt in Mississippi. His guide, Holt Collier, cornered a black bear and tied it to a tree, and Roosevelt refused to shoot it as unsporting. Accounts differ on what happened to the bear afterwards. The cartoonist Clifford Berryman drew the scene for the Washington Post on 16 November 1902. In Brooklyn, shop owners Morris and Rose Michtom made a soft bear, put it in their window as "Teddy's bear", and went on to found the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company. In Germany, Steiff showed a jointed bear designed by Richard Steiff at the Leipzig Toy Fair in March 1903.
How people mark it
In schools and colleges, friends swap small teddy keychains, and someone always turns up with a teddy taller than they are.
Couples give a teddy as something that lasts after the roses wilt and the chocolate from Chocolate Day is gone. Many people keep the bear on a bed, a desk or a car dashboard for years.
Married couples often find the teddy ends up with their children, which is half the fun. A card or a small bear for the work desk works just as well.
Family and friends can join in without any romance at all. It is the easiest day of the week to share with a little sister, a nephew, or a best friend who still sleeps with a stuffed toy.
If you are buying a real teddy for a small child, look for the ISI mark. Since 1 January 2021, toys sold in India must meet Bureau of Indian Standards safety rules and carry the ISI mark. For babies and toddlers, check that the eyes and nose are fixed firmly and there are no loose buttons or bells that could be swallowed.
Teddy colours and what lists say they mean
Teddy colour meanings come from gift-shop and blog lists that copy each other, not from any tradition. The usual list says red means love and pink means a proposal accepted. The same lists give white and brown teddies awkward meanings, such as "already taken" or "you broke my heart". Nobody will check a chart. Pick the colour they like, or the colour of their old childhood teddy, and say in your message why you chose it.
Teddy Day link with their name
Many people search for a "Teddy Day link generator with name" or a "Teddy Day wish link with name". They want a card that opens on the other person's phone with their name on it, sent as one link. That is what Kehdoo does. Type their name, write a line, pick a look, and you get one link to send on WhatsApp. It is free, with no app and no sign-up.
Here are ideas that work well inside a link card:
| Idea | How to do it in the card | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Their name and a photo | Their name at the top, with a photo of you two or of their childhood teddy | Partner, best friend, sibling |
| A short letter | The story of a teddy you once gave them, or why they feel like a hug | Partner, spouse |
| A "5 things" list | Title it "5 times you were my teddy" and list real moments | Best friend, partner |
| A gift box opening | The card unwraps like a present | Crush, partner far away |
| Confetti and soft music | Confetti and a gentle track when the card opens | Little siblings and children |
| Save as an image | Download it so they can put it on their WhatsApp status | Friends, college groups |
| Timing | Send it at midnight or before their first class. You get an alert when it is first opened | Partner, best friend |
| One real thing | Pair the link with a small teddy keychain handed over in person | Anyone you see that day |

In Hinglish and Hindi:
A few things to keep in mind
Do
- Send romantic cards privately. Not every relationship is known to parents, and family WhatsApp groups are not the place for it.
- For a child, buy a teddy with the ISI mark and no small loose parts.
- Keep a friend's card clearly friendly, with a joke or a shared memory, so it is not misread.
Avoid
- Don't send a teddy or a romantic card to a colleague or a junior at work. It reads as pressure, whatever you meant.
- Don't keep sending cards to someone who has already said no. Teddy Day is not a second chance to ask.
Next comes Promise Day on 11 February, and the week ends on Valentine's Day.
How to wish someone on Teddy Day
A Teddy Day wish is about comfort, not grand romance. The best ones name the small, soft things: the person who listens at 2 a.m., the hug you can't give because you're in another city, the old teddy from their childhood. Keep it playful for friends and siblings, gentle for a crush, and warm for a partner or spouse. Not every relationship is known at home, so send a romantic message privately rather than in a family group.
Write a few lines in your own words, pick a design and share it as one link on WhatsApp, Instagram or anywhere else. They open an animated card made just for them, with no app and no sign-up.

Frequently asked questions
When is Teddy Day in 2027?
Teddy Day 2027 falls on Wednesday, 10 February 2027.
Teddy Day kab hai?
Teddy Day is on 10 February every year, the fourth day of Valentine's Week, after Chocolate Day on 9 February and before Promise Day on 11 February. In 2027 it falls on Wednesday, 10 February 2027.
Is Teddy Day the same as National Teddy Bear Day?
No. National Teddy Bear Day is an American day on 9 September about the toy and childhood. Teddy Day on 10 February is part of India's Valentine's Week and is about giving a teddy to someone you care about.
Why is a teddy bear called a teddy?
The toy is named after the American president Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, who refused to shoot a bear tied to a tree during a hunt in Mississippi in November 1902. A Washington Post cartoon of the incident inspired a Brooklyn shop owner, Morris Michtom, to make and sell a soft "Teddy's bear".
What do teddy bear colours mean on Teddy Day?
Online lists usually say a red teddy means love and a pink one means a proposal accepted, but these meanings come from gift-shop lists, not from any tradition. It is safer to pick the colour the person likes and say why in your message.
Can I celebrate Teddy Day with a friend or a sibling?
Yes. Teddy Day works well for best friends, little sisters and brothers, nieces, nephews and children, because a teddy is a comfort gift as much as a romantic one. Keep the message playful and add a shared memory so it is clearly friendly.
How do I make a Teddy Day link with someone's name?
On Kehdoo, type their name, add a photo and a short message, choose an opening such as a gift box, and you get one link to send on WhatsApp. It is free and needs no app or sign-up, and you get an alert when they first open it.
