Romantic

Happy Anniversary! πŸ’ Every year with you is a gift I never take for granted. You are my favourite person, my safe place, and my greatest adventure. Here's to forever. ❀️

Warm & Joyful

Can you believe it's been another year? πŸ₯‚ Time flies when you're with the right person. Happy Anniversary! I'd choose you all over again, every single time.

Heartfelt

Happy Anniversary! What we have is something truly special. Thank you for the love, the laughter, and the life we're building together. I love you more than words can say. πŸ’ž

An anniversary message is about one particular year, not about love in general. The wishes that get kept say something about what these two people went through since the last one. The wishes that get scrolled past could have been written for any couple, in any year, by anyone.

What makes an anniversary message feel personal?

An anniversary message feels personal when it names what the past year asked of the couple: a move, an illness, a baby, a job loss, or nothing dramatic at all. Most anniversary messages are written as if the couple got married yesterday. They talk about the wedding, the vows, the idea of forever. All of that is twelve months old at least.

Naming the year changes the message completely.

"Happy anniversary! Wishing you both a lifetime of love and happiness."

"Happy anniversary. You two moved cities, lost a parent and still managed to be kind to each other through all of it. That is the actual achievement, not the wedding."

If it is your own anniversary and you are writing to your partner, the rule is even simpler. Pick something ordinary. Grand statements are easy to write and easy to doubt; the small true thing is not.

What to write, by whose anniversary it is

Whose anniversaryWhat to write aboutWhat to avoid
Your own, to your partnerOne ordinary habit of theirs you rely onA long summary of your relationship history
Your parents'What you learned about marriage by watching themJokes about how they put up with each other
Your grandparents'The length of it, plainly stated, and one memoryTreating it as a curiosity rather than a life
A close friend'sBoth people, and something they do well togetherOnly addressing the friend you know
A couple you know sociallyWarmth, brevity, both namesInside jokes about the wedding
A first anniversaryThe year of learning to live together, which is the hard one"Only one year to go until the real test"
A 25th or 50thWhat they built, the family, the house, the habitsAnything about how much things have changed
A couple having a difficult yearSteadiness rather than celebrationPretending nothing is happening

Anniversary wishes you can send

To your partner
Happy anniversary. πŸ’ Another year of you making tea without being asked, arguing with the news, and somehow making an ordinary Tuesday feel like a good day. I'd pick this again. All of it.
To your partner, longer
Happy anniversary, my love. ❀️ This year was not the easy one we hoped for, and you were steady through every part of it. I don't say it enough, so here it is in writing: being married to you is the best decision I've made.
To your parents
Happy anniversary, Ma and Papa. πŸ’› I learned what a partnership looks like by watching the two of you split every problem in half without discussing it first. Still learning. Love you both.
To grandparents
Happy 52nd anniversary! Fifty-two years, four cities, and you still finish each other's sentences and then argue about who said it first. What a thing to have built.
To a couple, first anniversary
Happy first anniversary! πŸ₯‚ One whole year of learning how the other one loads a dishwasher. Everyone says this is the tricky one, and you two have made it look easy. So happy for you both.
To close friends
Happy anniversary to my favourite pair. πŸŽ‰ You two are proof that you can be genuinely in love and still be very funny about it. Wishing you a year with more holidays and fewer emergencies.
For a 25th anniversary
Happy silver anniversary! πŸ₯ˆ Twenty-five years, one home that everyone feels welcome in, and two people who still like each other's company. That last part is rarer than anyone admits.
Short and warm
Happy anniversary to you both. πŸ’ž Wishing you a gentle, happy year.

How are anniversaries marked in Indian families?

In many Indian families, anniversaries are a family occasion rather than a private one. Parents' anniversaries are often marked with a temple visit, a puja at home, or a meal with everyone who can get there, and children are expected to be part of it. A card addressed to both parents, which the whole family can see, usually fits that better than a private message to one of them.

Equally, plenty of couples of an older generation do not mark the date at all, and a loud public post can embarrass rather than please. When in doubt, send something warm directly to them and let them decide whether it becomes public.

For milestone anniversaries, the traditional names come up often enough to be worth knowing: pearl at 30, ruby at 40, silver at 25, golden at 50, diamond at 60. They are useful mostly as a hook for the message rather than as a rule about gifts.

Do

  • Address both people by name. A wish sent to one half of a couple is a wish to one person.
  • Name the year: what happened in it, what they got through.
  • For your own partner, pick something small and true over something grand and general.
  • Ask before posting photos of someone else's anniversary. Not everyone wants the date public.

Avoid

  • Don't joke about how long they have tolerated each other. It is the oldest anniversary joke and it has never been funny to the couple.
  • Don't ask a childless couple about children, and do not ask a couple in a hard year how things are going, in a card.
  • Don't recycle last year's message. People notice.
  • Don't write about the wedding when you mean the marriage.

The registry has a page for wedding anniversaries with the dates and customs, and for couples still at the start, engagement and wedding have their own. Karwa Chauth and Valentine's Day are the other two days in the year when most of these messages get written.

Frequently asked questions

What should I write in an anniversary message?

Write about the year that just ended rather than about love in general: what the couple went through, and what they managed anyway. A message that could be sent to any couple in any year is the one people scroll past.

What do I write for my parents' wedding anniversary?

Say what you learned about marriage by watching them, and address both of them by name. In many Indian families the anniversary is a family occasion, so a card everyone can see usually fits better than a private message to one parent.

What is a good short anniversary wish?

"Happy anniversary to you both. Wishing you a gentle, happy year." Short works as long as both names are there and the tone matches how well you know them.

What are the traditional anniversary names?

Silver marks 25 years, pearl 30, ruby 40, golden 50 and diamond 60. They are most useful as a hook for the message rather than as a rule about what to give.

What should I write to my husband or wife on our anniversary?

Pick one ordinary thing they do that you rely on, rather than a grand declaration. The small, specific detail is harder to doubt and much more likely to be reread years later.

What do I write for a couple going through a difficult year?

Acknowledge it quietly and wish them steadiness rather than celebration: "This year asked a lot of you both, and you've been good to each other through it." Pretending nothing is happening is what most people get wrong.

Is it rude to post someone else's anniversary on social media?

Ask first. Some couples, particularly of an older generation, prefer the date stays within the family, and a public post can embarrass them even when it is meant kindly.

What is a Kehdoo anniversary card?

It's a short animated greeting page for "Happy Anniversary". Write or pick a message, add a photo if you want, and Kehdoo turns it into a shareable card at a single link.

Is it free to create and share a anniversary card?

Yes. Creating and sharing a card on Kehdoo is free, and you don't need an account to do it.

Can I add a photo to my anniversary card?

Yes. You can add a photo during creation, and it's resized and stripped of metadata before it's stored.

How do I share the card once it's ready?

Share the link directly via WhatsApp or your device's native share sheet, copy the link, or download the card as a PNG.

Don't let the words sit inside.
