A good Diwali message to a client thanks them for one real thing from this year, wishes their family well, and asks for nothing. In 2026 Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November, so for most offices Thursday 5 and Friday 6 November (Dhanteras) are the last working days to send it.

Most corporate Diwali greetings fail the same way. They read like a press release ("We at XYZ Solutions extend our warmest wishes...") and end with an offer. The client deletes it with the forty others that arrived the same morning. The ones people actually read are short, signed by a person, and mention something that happened between you.

"Wishing you and your family a happy and prosperous Diwali. Regards, Team XYZ."

"Happy Diwali, Meera. Thank you for sticking with us through the March delay. You could have walked, and you didn't. Wishing you and your family a bright festival and a calmer new year. Rohan."

The second one takes two minutes longer to write. It is also the only one anyone will remember.

When should you send Diwali wishes to clients in 2026?

Send Diwali wishes to clients between Monday 2 and Friday 6 November 2026. Earlier than that and it gets lost in the Navratri and Dussehra noise. Later and you are writing into a long weekend when most people have stopped reading work mail.

  1. Mon 2 to Wed 4 Nov
    Hampers arrive

Courier networks slow down badly in Diwali week. Aim for gift hampers to land by Wednesday, not on the day itself.

  2. Thu 5 and Fri 6 Nov
    Last working days

The best window for emails and personal messages. Friday is also Dhanteras, when many business families buy something new and worship Lakshmi and Kubera in the evening.

  3. Sun 8 Nov
    Diwali, Lakshmi Puja

The main night. A WhatsApp message on the morning of the 8th is fine for clients you know well. Leave email alone.

  4. Tue 10 Nov
    Gujarati New Year

For Gujarati clients this is the new year, and "Saal Mubarak" or "Nutan Varshabhinandan" goes down very well.

  5. Wed 11 Nov
    Bhai Dooj

The last of the five days. Many offices stay shut until after it.

Formal or warm: which tone should you use?

Use a formal tone when the relationship is new, the client is a large company or a government body, or the message goes to many people at once. Use a warm tone when you have worked together for more than a year, you know their first name, and you would call them if something went wrong.

Gujarati client, for the new year
Saal Mubarak, [Name]! Wishing you a new year of full order books, good health and peace at home. Thank you for another year of working together.

Diwali wishes for customers

A customer greeting from a shop, clinic, salon or small business should feel like the owner leaning over the counter, not an advert. Keep the discount for a separate message, on a separate day.

Customers of a local shop
Happy Diwali from all of us at [Shop name]! Thank you for walking in this year, for the chats at the counter and for the recommendations to your neighbours. Wishing your home a bright, safe festival.
Customers of a service business
Wishing you a very happy Diwali. Thank you for trusting us with your home this year. We will be closed from 8 to 11 November and back on the 12th. [Owner's name], [Business].

Patients of a clinic

Online customers
Happy Diwali from the small team behind [Brand]. Every order this year was packed by someone who was glad to see it come in. Thank you, and have a bright festival.

Diwali wishes for employees and your team

Your team does not need to be told they are "valued assets". They need to hear that someone noticed what they did. Name the project, the bad week, the launch.

From a founder to everyone
Happy Diwali, everyone. We shipped the new app, kept every client we had and grew by eight people this year, and none of it happened by itself. Go home, switch off, eat too much. See you on the 12th.
From a manager to the team
Happy Diwali, team. The September release was the hardest month this group has had, and you got it out without anyone being left alone with it. Thank you. Have a proper break.
To one employee who carried a lot
Happy Diwali, [Name]. I know how many late nights the audit took, and I know who stayed for most of them. Thank you. Enjoy every day of this holiday.
To staff working through Diwali
Happy Diwali to everyone on shift this week. Hospitals, kitchens, support desks and security don't stop for the festival, and neither do you. Thank you. Sweets are in the pantry.
To a new joiner
Happy first Diwali with us, [Name]! You have been here three months and it already feels longer, in a good way. Have a lovely festival with your family.
From HR to all staff
Wishing all of you and your families a safe and happy Diwali. The office is closed from 8 to 11 November. Please travel carefully, and take the rest you have earned.

Diwali wishes for business partners and vendors

Vendors usually get the leftovers of a Diwali list, if anything. A real message to the supplier who saved your launch is cheap and remembered for years.

Business partner
Wishing you and your family a very happy Diwali. It has been a good year to be in business with you. Here's to building more of it together in the next one.
Vendor or supplier
Happy Diwali, [Name]. When our biggest order came in two weeks early, you made it work. That is why we keep coming back. Wishing your team a bright festival.
A small vendor who works alone
Happy Diwali, [Name] bhai. Thank you for picking up the phone every single time this year, even on Sundays. Wishing you and your family a lovely festival.
Delivery, security and housekeeping staff
Happy Diwali, and thank you. You keep this place running and most of us never say so. Wishing you and your family a safe festival.

Short Diwali lines for a WhatsApp broadcast

On WhatsApp, shorter is kinder. People open these on a phone in a crowded week.

Short, for clients
Happy Diwali from all of us at [Company]. Thank you for a good year together. Wishing you and your family light and good health. 🪔
Short, for customers
Wishing you a bright and safe Diwali! Thank you for choosing [Shop] this year. 🪔
Short, Hinglish
Shubh Deepavali! Is saal ke saath ke liye dil se dhanyavaad. Aapke ghar mein roshni aur kaam mein barkat bani rahe. 🪔
Short, for the team
Happy Diwali, team! Switch off, eat well, and come back rested on the 12th. 🪔
Short, season's greetings
Season's greetings and a happy new year from all of us at [Company]. Thank you for your trust this year.

Notes to go with a Diwali gift hamper

The card inside a hamper is read once, at the door, by whoever opens the box. Two lines is plenty. Make sure it says who it is from, because hampers lose their outer packaging fast.

Hamper for a client
A little sweetness for your Diwali, with thanks for a wonderful year. Happy Diwali to you and your family. [Name], [Company].
Hamper for a client's family
For the whole family, with our best wishes for Diwali. Thank you for letting us be part of your year.
Hamper for an employee
Happy Diwali, [Name]! A small thank-you for everything you put into this year. Enjoy it with the people you love.
Hamper of dry fruit or sweets
Shubh Deepavali! Something to share when the guests arrive. With warm wishes from all of us at [Company].
Hamper for a vendor
Happy Diwali, and thank you for always delivering, in every sense. From all of us at [Company].
Hamper with a diya or plant
A small light for your home this Diwali. Thank you for a good year together.

Diwali wishes for clients in Hindi

Many Indian clients, especially family-run businesses, read a Hindi greeting as more personal than an English one. Write it plainly. You do not need heavy Sanskrit words to sound respectful.

Client (Hinglish)
Aapko aur aapke parivaar ko Deepavali ki hardik shubhkamnayein. Is saal ke bharose ke liye shukriya. Naya saal aapke liye sehat aur tarakki lekar aaye.
Deepavali ki hardik shubhkamnayein, "heartfelt Diwali wishes". The standard formal greeting
Shubh Deepavali, "auspicious Diwali". Short and works for anyone
Shubh Labh, "goodness and gain". Written on account books and shop doors at Diwali
Chopda Pujan, the worship of new account books by Gujarati and Marwari traders on Diwali
Saal Mubarak or Nutan Varshabhinandan, the Gujarati new-year greetings, said on Bestu Varas just after Diwali

What to avoid in a business Diwali message

Do

  • Put a real person's name at the bottom, and the client's name at the top.
  • Mention one real thing from the year: a project, a hard month, a first order.
  • Check the client's gift policy before sending a hamper. Many large companies and banks cap what staff may accept, and government employees have strict rules on gifts.
  • Offer a "Season's greetings" version to clients who don't celebrate Diwali.
  • Send to your vendors and support staff too. They notice who remembers them.

Avoid

  • Don't put a discount, a sales pitch or a "book a call" link inside the greeting. Send offers separately, or not at all that week.
  • Don't send firecrackers as a corporate gift. Many cities restrict when and where they can be burst, and plenty of families won't want them.
  • Don't send liquor to a client unless you know they drink, and never to a Jain or a government client. A leather gift to a Jain household is also a mistake.
  • Don't send "Happy Diwali" to a client who has lost someone this year. Many Hindu families do not celebrate the first Diwali after a death. A short "thinking of you" is kinder.
  • Don't send the same image to forty clients in one group chat. It shows everyone exactly how personal it was.

The Diwali page has the five days, the regional names and more wishes for family and friends. For the purchase day before it, see Dhanteras, and for Gujarati clients, Gujarati New Year. Sikh clients may be marking Bandi Chhor Divas the same night. If a client did something that deserves more than a festival line, a separate thank-you message says it better.

  1. Pick the occasionOpen the card maker and pick the occasion. The card starts finished, in colours that suit the day, so there is nothing to design from scratch.
  2. Write the messageType your own words, or start from one of the messages on this page and change the details until it sounds like you.
  3. Make it yoursSwap the look, add a photo, change the colours and sign it off. Everything updates on the card as you edit it.
  4. Share the linkSend the link on WhatsApp or anywhere else and they open an animated card, with no app and no sign-up. You can also download it as a PNG.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good Diwali message for clients?

Thank them for one specific thing from the year, wish their family a happy festival, and sign it with your own name. "Happy Diwali, Meera. Thank you for staying with us through the March delay. Wishing your family a bright festival" beats any formal paragraph, because it shows a person wrote it.

When should a business send Diwali wishes in 2026?

Between Monday 2 and Friday 6 November 2026. Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November, so Thursday 5 and Friday 6 are the last working days most offices have before the break. Gift hampers should be delivered by about Wednesday 4 November, because couriers slow down badly in Diwali week.

How do I wish clients Happy Diwali in Hindi?

"आपको और आपके परिवार को दीपावली की हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं" (Aapko aur aapke parivaar ko Deepavali ki hardik shubhkamnayein) is the standard formal line. Add one sentence of thanks, such as "इस साल के भरोसे के लिए धन्यवाद", and sign it with your name.

Should I send Diwali wishes to clients who don't celebrate Diwali?

Yes, most people are glad to be remembered, but choose your words. A "Season's greetings and a happy new year" message works for everyone. If you know a client is Jain or Sikh, a line about Mahavira's nirvana or Bandi Chhor Divas shows you paid attention.

What should I write on a Diwali gift hamper card?

Two short lines: a wish and a thank-you, plus who it is from. For example, "A little sweetness for your Diwali, with thanks for a wonderful year. [Name], [Company]." Put your name inside the hamper, not only on the outer box, because the box is often thrown away first.

Can I add an offer or discount to a Diwali greeting for customers?

Keep them apart. A greeting with a coupon code at the bottom reads as an advert, and the warmth is lost. Send the festival wish on its own, and if you have a Diwali sale, announce it in a separate message on a different day.

How do I send Diwali wishes to many clients on WhatsApp?

A WhatsApp broadcast list sends each person a private copy, but it only reaches people who have saved your number. For your most important clients, send a personal message with their name instead. For everyone else, keep the broadcast to two short lines with a real name at the end.

What is a Kehdoo Diwali card?

It's a short animated greeting page for "Best Wishes". Write or pick a message, add a photo if you want, and Kehdoo turns it into a shareable card at a single link.

Is it free to create and share a Diwali card?

Yes. Creating and sharing a card on Kehdoo is free, and you don't need an account to do it.

Can I add a photo to my Diwali card?

Yes. You can add a photo during creation, and it's resized and stripped of metadata before it's stored.

How do I share the card once it's ready?

Share the link directly via WhatsApp or your device's native share sheet, copy the link, or download the card as a PNG.

Don't let the words sit inside.
